‘Justice League’ Reshoots: Henry Cavill’s Mustache, Joss Whedon, Scheduling Headaches
  |  @   |

We all know reshoots are just a typical part of the blockbuster filmmaking process. Studios always have a place in the budget for them. But recent reports of reshoots have shown how problematic film production can be. And now we are getting an idea of how severe the Justice League reshoot situation is.

Although they were able to rile the crowd at SDCC this past weekend, the film was still in the middle of reshoots. Of course, none of that was addressed in Hall H, but there is word that Warner Bros. is spending quite a bit of money in order for Justice League to be as big of a success as Wonder Woman, and less of a failure as Suicide Squad. More on the story below.

Variety points out that WB is spending north of $25 million on these extensive reshoots, which is putting a considerable strain on the cast seeing as there is a bit of schedule maneuvering. Though Ben Affleck and Gal Gadot have clear schedules which makes the available for reshoots, the schedule is putting a strain on the other castmembers. For instance, Henry Cavill, who plays Superman in the film, is currently shooting Mission: Impossible 6. It was thought that he could finish shooting MI6 before putting the cape on again. However, new scenes have required him to jump back and forth from productions, and “a moustache he grew for his character in the “Mission: Impossible“ sequel will have to be digitally removed in post-production. Paramount, which is distributing the Mission: Impossible sequel, would not allow Cavill to shave the facial hair while production was taking place.”

Now that is funny, but it tells us that WB is in a race against time to get it right or try to make the most of a disaster. Let’s just hope it is the latter.

Ezra Miller, who plays the Flash, is in a similar situation as he will reprise his role in the Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them sequel, which is expected to start shooting soon.

Boyrs Kit of THR adds Jason Momoa had to be flown in from Australia, where Aquaman is being filmed, for about two weeks worth of reshoots.

While reshoots are always taken into account as a part of the film schedule, they rarely cost this much or cause this much of a headache. It’s still not clear how much of the film has changed since Joss Whedon took the helm so that Zack Snyder, the film’s original director, could address a very serious family matter.

Those close to the production say that the reshoots are happening to “punch up” the dialogue. Considering that’s Whedon’s department, it’s a good thing that WB brought him. But Snyder’s set pieces are unusable, which will make Whedon responsible for building that connective tissue.

But for all the work Whedon is putting into the project, he might not even get a co-directing credit, according to one insider who spoke to Variety. Still there is a chance that he could receive a screenwriting and or producing credit.

Justice League opens in theaters on November 17, 2017.
