We’ve known for a few months now that Mad Max: Fury Road and The Dark Knight Rises star Tom Hardy will play the title character in Sony’s long-planned Spider-Man spinoff Venom.
Now it looks like Hardy has his first co-star, as Rogue One: A Star Wars Story star Riz Ahmed is currently in talks for a role in the movie.
What Ahmed’s role would be in the movie is not yet known. The first character that will come to mind for most is Carnage, who was revealed to be the film’s villain a little over a month ago.
According to the report, however, insiders say the actor would not be playing Carnage if a deal is worked out. Ahmed was considered for that role, but after some changes were made to the script it was decided to look for someone else to play the villain.
In addition to Rogue One, Ahmed’s credits include titles like Four Lions, Centurion, Nightcrawler, Jason Bourne, and HBO’s The Night Of.
Venom is set to be directed by Ruben Fleischer, who previously directed Zombieland, 30 Minutes or Less, and Gangster Squad.
Another Spider-Man spinoff being developed by Sony is Silver and Black, their Silver Sable and Black Cat movie.
