Joi Harris, a stuntwoman, tragically lost her life while on the set of Deadpool 2. Harris died while performing a stunt on the set of Deadpool 2. Authorities have not identified the woman yet.

Local police gave this brief statement:
“Vancouver Police can confirm that a female stunt driver has died on the set of Deadpool during a stunt on a motorcycle.”
Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds also released a statement via his personal Twitter account:
Director David Leitch released his own statement regarding the matter:
“I’m deeply saddened by the loss of one of our stunt performers today. No words can express how I and the rest of the Deadpool 2 crew feel about this tragedy. Our thoughts are with her family, friends and loved ones in this difficult time.”
No additional information was released at the time, but witnesses say that Harris performed the stunt at least four times before tragically losing her life on the fifth attempt when she lost control of her bike and ran into a building, going through the glass.
One witness told the CBC:
“She lost control really quickly, it happened in a split second. She was going full throttle, and then there was a building there. She went from zero to really quick. She just disappeared from view.”
SAG-Aftra and British Columbia coroner’s office will be conducting their own investigations.
While there are a number of accidents that happen on a live set — Tom Cruise’s accident immediately comes to mind — but tragedies such as these are a rare occurrence.
Production of Deadpool 2 started in late-June, and the cast has been using social media to hype the highly anticipated sequel. It’s still unclear how much will change after this tragedy, but it appears that the sequel is still on course to be released on June 1, 2018.
