We found out a couple of years back that The Witch director Robert Eggers was set to take on a remake of the 1922 silent classic Nosferatu.
Now it’s been announced that Eggers’ breakout star from The Witch, Anya Taylor-Joy, is in negotiations to reunite with him for the remake.
Eggers also penned the screenplay for the remake of Nosferatu, which was an unauthorized adaptation of Bram Stoker’s original vampire tale, 1897’s Dracula. The story followed a vampire named Count Orlok who was looking to buy a house in Germany, falls in love with the wife of the man selling him the house.
The report says that Eggers has wanted Taylor-Joy for the movie since early on, but since breaking out in The Witch she’s gone to star in Morgan and last year’s hit Split. This has led to many more jobs, including landing a role in the X-Men spinoff New Mutants, and a far busier schedule. She’ll also appear in the announced sequel to Split and Unbreakable, titled Glass.
Nosferatu has been remade before in 1979’s Nosferatu the Vampyre directed by Werner Herzog. There’s also the Academy Award nominated Shadow of the Vampire in 2000, which was set during the making of Nosferatu. A “remix” of the original starring Doug Jones as Count Orlok was also crowdfunded a few years back, but has not yet been released.
