Cate Blanchett In Talks To Joins Jack Black In Eli Roth Film For Amblin Entertainment
  |  @   |

Yes, you read that right. Two time Academy Award winning actress Cate Blanchett is in talks to join Jack Black for director Eli Roth‘s upcoming directorial effort, titled The House With a Clock in Its Walls, which is from Amblin Entertainment.

You can find more on the story below.

Variety says the project will be an adaptation of the 1973 gothic horror novel of the same name, written by John Bellairs with illustrations by Edward Gorey. Supernatural creator Eric Kripke is set to pen the script, which will center on an orphaned boy who moves in with his uncle, who just so happens to be a mediocre but well-intentioned witch. Soon the boy finds himself in a world of danger when he discovers that one of the clocks in the walls of his uncle’s home could bring about doomsday.

According to THR, Black will play the uncle of the orphaned boy, while Blanchett will play Mrs. Zimmerman, the uncle’s neighbor and best friend, and more importantly, a fellow witch. The actress has been taking a slight departure from her usual mature roles for some family friendly fun. This is a major deviation for Roth, who is probably better known for his gruesome horror features ranging from Cabin Fever to the Hostel movies to The Green Inferno.

Brad Fischer, James Vanderbilt, and Kripke are producing.

Black is set to appear in Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle, which is scheduled to open on December 25, 2017. Blanchett’s upcoming projects include Thor: Ragnarok, where she plays the villainous Asgardian god of death, Hela. The film opens on November 5, 2017. She will also appear alongside Sandra Bullock and Mindy Kaling in Ocean’s 8, which is scheduled to open June 8, 2018.

No release date has been set for The House With a Clock in Its Walls.
