Three new actors have joined the cast of The Haunting of Hill House, the upcoming Netflix series based on Shirley Jackson‘s 1959 novel of the same name. The series comes from Oculus, Hush, Absentia, and Ouija: Origin of Evil director Mike Flanagan, Steven Spielberg‘s Amblin TV, and Paramount Television.
Boarding the project is Henry Thomas, Elizabeth Reaser, and Kate Siegel. They join the previously cast Carla Gugino (Sin City, San Andreas) and Michiel Huisman (Game of Thrones, Treme).
Thomas is best known for playing young Elliott in Spielberg’s E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and also starred in Gangs of New York and Legends of the Fall, while Reaser played Esme Cullen in The Twilight Saga movies and stars in the current miniseries Manhunt: Unabomber.
All three of the newly cast actors have worked with Flanagan in the past. The trio all appeared in Ouija: Origin of Evil, and Thomas and Siegel both star (along with Gugino) in another of Flanagan’s Netflix projects, an adaptation of the Stephen King book Gerald’s Game, which is coming soon.
Siegel has worked with Flanagan the most, including the two mentioned above, Oculus, and Hush, which she also co-wrote with the director.
Here’s a description of the book the series is based on from Amazon:
The classic supernatural thriller by an author who helped define the genre.
First published in 1959, Shirley Jackson’s The Haunting of Hill House has been hailed as a perfect work of unnerving terror. It is the story of four seekers who arrive at a notoriously unfriendly pile called Hill House: Dr. Montague, an occult scholar looking for solid evidence of a “haunting”; Theodora, his lighthearted assistant; Eleanor, a friendless, fragile young woman well acquainted with poltergeists; and Luke, the future heir of Hill House. At first, their stay seems destined to be merely a spooky encounter with inexplicable phenomena. But Hill House is gathering its powers””and soon it will choose one of them to make its own.
Flanagan is writing, directing, and executive producing The Haunting of Hill House, which will run for 10 episodes to start.
