‘Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3’ To Set Up Films For The Next 20 Years
  |  @   |

It’s a well-known fact that Marvel Studios is planning ahead for the Marvel Cinematic Universe and that they have films set in place until at least until 2020. But the only people who know what the MCU will look like after Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4 are those who are working very closely on the films. It’s pretty safe to say that nothing will be the same after the two mega-ensembles, but the one person who might have the answers is the director of Guardians of the Galaxy and its sequel, James Gunn.

During a Facebook Live Session, Gunn was able to give us a small peek into the future of the MCU. A future where Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 not only helps set up the next 10 to 20 years of the MCU but also expands its cosmic universe. More on the story and the video below.

Of course, Gunn couldn’t answer our questions directly, that would just spoil everything. However, he spoke about how Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 would shape the future of the MCU as well as expand upon its cosmic universe, which will include Galactic heroes like Nova. Here’s what he had to say:

“Yes, definitely. Nova comes up occasionally as someone we might use. One of the things I’m doing with creating Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, it will take place after the next two Avengers movies and it will help to set up the next 10, 20 years of Marvel movies. It’s going to really expand the cosmic universe. We’re going to be setting up new characters. It will be the last movie of this version of Guardians of the Galaxy.”

With Avengers 4 being released in 2019, it’s very likely that we will get Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 at least by 2020. The film is acting as an epilogue of sorts and will kick off Phase 4 of the MCU. Hopefully, we will get some answers as to what will happen to heroes like Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and Hulk. But that is for an entirely different report. However, it makes a lot of sense that Vol. 3 would usher in the expansion of the MCU’s cosmic universe, and who knows maybe some of those standalone heroes will make up a new version of the Guardians.

As for what we could see in Vol. 3, well, of course, Gunn could not elaborate without spoiling anything, but he teases viewers with what kind of music to expect from the sequel:

“Volume 1 and Volume 2 have been Meredith’s song choices, her communication to Peter. In Volume 3, the song choices will be Yondu communicating to Peter.”

Well, it was Cat Steven’s “Father and Son” that was playing on that Zune in Vol. 2. And since Kraglin said there were 300 songs on it, who knows what kind of music Yondu was listening to before he died. But it seems fitting that Peter’s parental figures speak to him via song.
