‘IT: Chapter Two’: Writer Gary Dauberman To Bring New Horrors To Stephen King’s It Sequel
  |  @   |

Having only seen bits and pieces of the original IT TV miniseries, I didn’t know what to expect from the new Stephen King’s IT from director Andy Muschietti. But after catching a screening of new film, I can understand why everyone is so afraid of clowns. That being said, there are a few flaws, but overall, I had a terrifyingly good time. The reaction has been so good that Warner Bros. feels confident enough to move forward with a sequel.

IT: Chapter One – as the film is called in the title card at the end – focuses on the Losers Club when they were kids. This gives it that 80s coming-of-age vibe with a touch of Stephen King horror. Now it’s time to look forward to IT: Chapter Two, which will obviously focus on the adults. Though casting has yet to begin, they have hired It co-writer Gary Dauberman to pen its sequel. And there is even a chance that the kids of the Losers Club could make a return. More on the story below.

The report comes to us from /Film, who says producers Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg have already gotten to work on a sequel. Here’s what they told the site:

“We are locked and loaded and ready to jump in the minute they say “˜go.’ The script is not done, but the script is being worked on. Obviously, all of the filmmakers are chomping at the bit to get started, and we have a very exciting shape, and Gary’s working away. I feel somewhat optimistic that we’ll get to make it, but there’s been no official decision.”

Now that they are in the process of writing the sequel, there is the matter of finding the cast. Remember, Chapter One focuses on the Losers Club when they were kids. If anything, the film’s success is thanks to their chemistry and Bill SkarsgÃ¥rd‘s bone-chilling performance as Pennywise the Dancing Clown.

According to THR, the film is currently tracking for a record high of $60 million, following a very disappointing summer movie season. But if we are keeping our expectations in check, analysts are expecting to see the film earn somewhere north of $50 million, which is still pretty good considering it’s a September release.

Dauberman penned three of The Conjuring spin-offs: Annabelle, Annabelle: Creation, and The Nun.

It’s still unclear if Chapter Two will recall the kids to reprise their roles to serve as some sort of flashback, and not repurposed scenes from the first film. There is no word yet on who they are looking at to play the adults. Although the young cast has an idea of who they would like to see. But if they want to keep the kids as they are, they have to act fast before they start to grow out of their roles.

If everything goes according to plan, it’s possible that we could see IT: Chapter Two as early as 2019.
