First Look At ‘Stranger Things’ Star David Harbour As The New Hellboy (Image)
  |  @   |

As much as we would like to see the Guillermo del Toro’s Hellboy franchise to continue on with Ron Perlman, Lionsgate’s reboot is steering it in a new direction. And with every reboot must come a new cast. Stranger Things star David Harbour will play the title character, with director Neil Marshall (The Descent) taking the new iteration towards a hard-R. This follows a recent string of hit comic book adaptation that have been geared towards a more mature audience. But we didn’t know what Big Red would look like or at least how he would distinguish himself from the first take.

Now that has changed, with the film posting the first look at Harbour as Hellboy on social media. And not a teaser, either. A full body look at the character, one gigantic arm, shaved off horns, gun, and all. Check it out below.

It’s pretty straightforward with the caption. Going back to the photo, Hellboy is a lot veinier than I remember. He is also standing more upright than his previous iteration. So he looks more confident and as if he has been through many battles. He also looks like he takes things a bit more seriously. I suppose the grittier take makes the titular character a bit more mature. Not that it is a bad thing. He also has long hair and a cool utility belt and a pouch. And if you look closely at them, you may notice some of the occult stitching that is on them. Hellboy’s “Right Hand of Doom” also looks a smidge slimmer, but maybe that is just me.

And who knows, this is just the first official photo, we haven’t even seen any footage yet. We could be getting an exciting teaser that gives us an idea of the tone of the film.

Production has yet to begin, but a majority of the casting is already done. The film also stars Milla Jovovich as the villainous Nimue the Blood Queen and Ian McShane as Professor Broom, Hellboy’s adoptive human father. Daniel Dae Kim is in talks to play Ben Daimio, a Japanese American soldier, and employee of Paranormal Research and Defense. That role was previously filled by Ed Skrein (Deadpool), but because of the whitewashing backlash, the actor walked away from the adaptation.

Let us know what you think about Harbour as Hellboy in the comments below.
