The 69th Annual Emmy Awards ceremony was broadcast live tonight on CBS from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California, with Late Night‘s Stephen Colbert hosting for his first time.
The Handmaid’s Tale and Veep took home the big wins in their respective categories “” drama and comedy “” while the limited series Big Little Lies, starring Nicole Kidman (who also won); Donald Glover and his series Atlanta; and long-running sketch series Saturday Night Live all took home their fair share of awards as well. For SNL, guest star Alec Baldwin grabbed the Emmy for his popular repeated portrayal of President Donald Trump.
Veep star Julia Louis-Dreyfus made history tonight when she snagged her sixth consecutive win for best actress in a comedy series, which is the most Emmy awards won by a performer for one role. The HBO show went on to win the Best Comedy Series award.
