Good Omens David Tennant Michael Sheen First Look

Filming has begun in London on Good Omens, the limited television series from Amazon Studios based on the Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett novel Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch, and Gaiman has revealed today the first look at its stars David Tennant and Michael Sheen in character.

Check out the full image here below of Tennant and Sheen on set from the opening scenes shot at St. James Park in London.

Tennant plays Crowley, the fast-living demon, while Sheen plays Aziraphale, the somewhat fussy angel and rare-book dealer, in the upcoming six-part series, which was written by Gaiman, who is also serving as showrunner. Gaiman posted the photo to his social media accounts today with the caption, “David Tennant and Michael Sheen. Crowley and Aziraphale, eleven years ago, beside the duck pond in St James’s Park. It is actually happening. And they are every bit as good as you might have hoped.”

It was recently announced that Jack Whitehall (Fresh Meat, Bad Education), Michael McKean (Better Call Saul, This is Spinal Tap), Miranda Richardson (Harry Potter, Churchill, Stronger), and Adria Arjona (True Detective, Narcos, Emerald City, Pacific Rim: Uprising) have joined the cast.

Here’s the official details on their characters:

Whitehall will be playing Newton Pulsifer aka Newt – an unfulfilled wages clerk turned witch-hunter – and McKean will take on the role of Sergeant Shadwell, the leader of the witch-finder army who sends him on his mission. Miranda Richardson will play Madame Tracy, the psychic medium and part-time courtesan who provides a helping hand to the pair as they try to save the world from Armageddon. Arjona … will play Anathema Device, practical occultist and descendant of the ancient witch Agnes Nutter.

When the series was first announced in January, Gaiman said:

“Almost thirty years ago, Terry Pratchett and I wrote the funniest novel we could about the end of the world, populated with angels and demons, not to mention an eleven-year old Antichrist, witchfinders and the four horsepeople of the Apocalypse. It became many people’s favourite book. Three decades later, it’s going to make it to the screen. I can’t think of anyone we’d rather make it with than BBC Studios, and I just wish Sir Terry were alive to see it.”

Gaiman also posted today a photo of himself on set with director Douglas Mackinnon.

A fan responded to the photo saying he was “sad” that there was no chair there for Pratchett (who passed away in 2015), to which Gaiman responded, “There is, but it doesn’t get here until tomorrow.”

Good Omens, which will consist of six hour-long episodes, is scheduled to launch globally on Prime Video in over 200 countries and territories in 2019 including in the UK, where it will also air on BBC Two at a later date.

Here’s the official description of the Amazon series:

Good Omens takes place in 2018 when the Apocalypse is near and Final Judgment is set to descend upon humanity. According to The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter Witch (the world’s only completely accurate book of prophecies), the world will end on a Saturday. Next Saturday, in fact. Just before dinner.

So the armies of Good and Evil are amassing, Atlantis is rising, and tempers are flaring. Everything appears to be going according to Divine Plan. Except Aziraphale, a somewhat fussy angel, and Crowley, a fast-living demon””both of whom have lived amongst Earth’s mortals since The Beginning and have grown rather fond of the lifestyle””are not actually looking forward to the coming war. And”¦someone seems to have misplaced the Antichrist.
