New ‘Halloween’ To Ignore All Previous Movies Except Original

Halloween Banner

The latest Halloween movie has taken some interesting twists and turns since we’ve known about it. First we found out that the legendary John Carpenter himself, who directed the original and hasn’t been involved with the franchise since Halloween III: Season of the Witch over three decades ago, would be helping to create this new movie. After that came the slightly confusing, yet intriguing decision to hire David Gordon Green and Danny McBride, the duo who previously worked together on Pineapple Express, Your Highness, Eastbound & Down, and Vice Principals, to make the movie.

More recently, there was even more exciting news for fans of the franchise: Jamie Lee Curtis will be returning to Haddonfield once again. And this time she’ll be joined by Judy Greer, who will be playing her daughter.

Now Carpenter himself has another interesting twist for us. He’s revealed that the newest movie will completely ignore every other entry in the franchise except the original. See what he had to say below.

Carpenter had a chat with Stereogum recently, where he was asked if he was responsible for getting Jamie Lee Curtis to return:

“No. She talked to the director. Her part was written into the script and they had this idea “” it’s kind of a”¦ I don’t know how to describe it. It’s almost an alternative reality. It picks up after the first one and it pretends that none of the other [sequels] were made. It’s gonna be fun. There’s a really talented director and it was well-written. I’m impressed.”

As an added bonus, Carpenter was also asked if he’d ever consider directing another movie sometime:

“No. Oh, no. I’d do it. I’ll be directing for [Nightside and Tales For A Halloween Night]. You know, you get to be my age and you have to pick your shots. I’m just slower than I was when I was young. Back then, you put on a pair of shoes, got some coffee and it was, “Off you go; let’s go make a movie!” But now, oh, god “” are you kidding? It’s hard to get up in the morning. But, sure, I’d love to do a movie if it was the right film and I thought I could do a good job with it.”

Carpenter talked about plenty more as well. You can find the full interview at the source link below.

In the new Halloween, Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) reaches her final confrontation with the masked killer Michael Myers four decades after surviving his killing spree.

The movie is currently scheduled to be released on October 19, 2018.

  1. Is it even ignoring Halloween 2 which started right where the original ended?
