Focus Features has released a red band teaser trailer for Thoroughbreds, which stars Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch, Split), Olivia Cooke (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, Bates Motel), Anton Yelchin (Star Trek, Green Room).
The movie follows two childhood friends who reconnect as teenagers and end up bringing out each other’s destructive tendencies. You can check out an official synopsis for the movie, the teaser trailer, and a poster below.
Childhood friends Lily and Amanda reconnect in suburban Connecticut after years of growing apart. Lily has turned into a polished, upper-class teenager, with a fancy boarding school on her transcript and a coveted internship on her resume; Amanda has developed a sharp wit and her own particular attitude, but all in the process of becoming a social outcast. Though they initially seem completely at odds, the pair bond over Lily’s contempt for her oppressive stepfather, Mark, and as their friendship grows, they begin to bring out one another’s most destructive tendencies. Their ambitions lead them to hire a local hustler, Tim, and take matters into their own hands to set their lives straight.
The movie is one of the final roles of Anton Yelchin, who passed away far too soon last year. The other roles are the recent Rememory starring alongside Peter Dinklage, the Netflix animated series Trollhunters from Guillermo del Toro, and We Don’t Belong Here. These are his final credited roles, anyway. There’s always the chance that something the actor worked on that’s not out there yet might pop up in the future.
Thoroughbreds will be released in theaters on March 9, 2018. It’s the feature debut of writer and director Cory Finley.
