The Talisman

Another adaptation of one of the works of Stephen King is in the works. Amblin Entertainment is developing a take on The Talisman, the 1984 novel penned by King and Peter Straub.

Amblin has brought in Josh Boone to get to work writing the adaptation, which follows a young boy on a quest to find a cure for his dying mother.

Here’s a description of The Talisman from the book’s Amazon page:

The iconic, “extraordinary” (The Washington Post) collaboration between #1 bestselling author Stephen King and Peter Straub””an epic thriller about a young boy’s quest to save his mother’s life.

Why had twelve-year-old Jack Sawyer’s mother frantically moved the two of them from Rodeo Drive to a New York City apartment to the Alhambra, a fading ocean resort and shuttered amusement park in New Hampshire? Who or what is she running from? She is dying…and even young Jack knows she can’t outrun death. But only he can save her””for he has been chosen to search for a prize across an epic landscape of dangers and lies, a realm of innocents and monsters, where everything Jack loves is on the line.

Boone is known for directing The Fault in Our Stars and Stuck in Love. He’s also working on the X-Men spinoff X-Men: The New Mutants. This isn’t the first Stephen King adaptation he’s been attached to, either. He was previously working on a new take on The Stand, but it’s not clear what that project’s status currently is.

Producing the adaptation of The Talisman is Frank Marshall and Michael Wright.

This is the latest in a recent string of King movie adaptations including the recent hit IT, Netflix’s Gerald’s Game, The Dark Tower, and the upcoming Netflix release 1922.

The television side of things is no less active. There was the Hulu miniseries 11.22.63, Spike’s The Mist (which was canceled after one season), Mr. Mercedes (which recently got a season two order), Hulu’s Castle Rock, and a TV series adaptation of The Dark Tower still in the plans despite the movie’s poor showing.
