  |  @   |

Though the current geopolitical climate is very divisive, it’s a bit of a relief that we can find inspiring stories from those who are willing to put their differences aside for the common good. That’s the feeling you get when watching 12 Strong, starring Chris Hemsworth, Michael Shannon, and more. Based on a true story, the film centers on a group of 12 brave soldiers sent on a dangerous mission in Afghanistan in the wake of September 11th. With emotions running high, they must put their trust and faith in new allies and overcome the cultural divide. Check out the trailer here below.

12 Strong also stars Michael Peña (Ant-Man), Trevante Rhodes (Moonlight), Geoff Stults (Only the Brave), Thad Luckinbill (The Young and the Restless), Austin Stowell (Bridge of Spies), Ben O’Toole (Hacksaw Ridge), Austin Hebert (Jack Reacher: Never Go Back), Kenneth Miller (Whiskey Tango Fotxtrot), Kenny Sheard (13 Hours), and Jack Kesy (The Strain). The film also features the talents of Laith Nakli (24: Legacy), Fahim Fazli (American Sniper) and Yousuf Azami (Lone Survivor), Said Taghmaoui (Wonder Woman), Elsa Pataky (Fast & Furious films), William Fichtner (Black Hawk Down), and Rob Riggle (The Hangover).

Here’s the official plot synopsis:

“12 Strong” is set in the harrowing days following 9/11 when a U.S. Special Forces team, led by their new Captain, Mitch Nelson (Hemsworth), is chosen to be the first U.S. troops sent into Afghanistan for an extremely dangerous mission. There, in the rugged mountains, they must convince Northern Alliance General Dostum (Negahban) to join forces with them to fight their common adversary: the Taliban and their Al Qaeda allies. In addition to overcoming mutual distrust and a vast cultural divide, the Americans “” accustomed to state-of-the-art warfare “” must adopt the rudimentary tactics of the Afghani horse soldiers. But despite their uneasy bond, the new allies face overwhelming odds: outnumbered and outgunned by a ruthless enemy that does not take prisoners.

Nicolai Fuglsig directed the film, which is produced by legendary producer Jerry Bruckheimer. Oscar winner Ted Tally and Peter Craig wrote the screenplay, based on the acclaimed book by best-selling author Doug Stanton.

12 Strong opens in theaters on January 19, 2018.
