Video: Netflix Gets Into The Aftershow Game With ‘Beyond Stranger Things’
  |  @   |

The popularity of Netflix’s Stranger Things has inspired a phenomenon. The show, which takes cues from many iconic sci-fi films of the ’80s, will be debuting its second season tomorrow.

And what would a hit show be without an aftershow. But how does an aftershow work for a series that releases all its episodes in one day? Well, Netflix has figured that out with Beyond Stranger Things, hosted by Jim Rash (Community). More on the story and a sneak peak video of the show below.

THR says Beyond Stranger Things will take a look “inspiration for the series, tell behind-the-scenes stories, and analyze every aspect of the second season, including answering all burning questions.” Basically, it’s your everyday aftershow but with a Stranger Things twist.

We’ve seen it with Chris Hardwick’s Talking Dead, who also hosted aftershows for Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. Game of Thrones, Orphan Black, and even Bachelor In Paradise tried similar attempts, all of which had varying results.

So the idea of an after-show isn’t exactly surprising. But what is surprising is that they are releasing it on a platform known for streaming content. While the idea behind it may seem a bit confusing, viewers are encouraged to watch the entire season first before viewing Beyond Stranger Things. But don’t worry, unlike the traditional aftershows that air after each episode, this will run immediately after the viewer completes the final episode of the season. Though it is an interesting format, it kind of defeats the purpose of an aftershow.

Like many aftershows that came before this one, Beyond Stranger Things will see Rash talk to the cast: Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, David Harbour, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Sean Astin, Linnea Berthelsen, Brett Gelman, Randy Havens, Dacre Montgomery, Paul Reiser, and Sadie Sink. Also the creators Ross and Matt Duffer and executive producer and director Shawn Levy, creative minds that brought this show to life, will be interviewed.

Now to make sure that you don’t miss out on all the fun, Netflix has released a small teaser announcing the aftershow, which has a few nods the old green text on a black screen computer monitor and the ’80s slasher film text. There’s nothing too spoilery about it.

Stranger Things season 2 and Beyond Stranger Things (which sounds like a better title for the second season) will be released tomorrow, October 27.
