‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’: Admiral Holdo Creates Friction Within The Resistance
  |  @   |

Earlier this week, we got to see a handful of new photos for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and we learned quite a few things about it. Among those things is that there will be some infighting within the Resistance. The events of The Force Awakens have left the faction broken and scattered across the cosmos, and it will be up to General Leia (Carrie Fisher) and Admiral Holdo (Laura Dern) to put the pieces back together.

However, those same images are teasing the idea that Leia could pass down her power of leadership to Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac), the Resistance’s ace pilot, and it appears that he and Holdo have very different ways of bringing an end to the war between themselves and the First Order. Find out more about Holdo’s role in the film in the full story below.

The story comes to us from EW, who reveals that the release of their exclusive covers had a dual purpose. One was to, obviously, promote the film, and the other was to reveal the dynamics between the two characters. Case in point, one of the covers paired Dameron and Holdo together.

Of the cover, Isaac said:

“It’s definitely appropriate that they’ve paired us, because a lot of the friction and conflict comes between Poe and that relationship with Admiral Holdo, who is this person that’s been “” at least temporarily “” put in charge of the Resistance.”

Based on that quote, it looks like Holdo is making some political moves in order to get a higher position of power. Obvious this kind of maneuvering will not sit well with someone like Poe, who has been dutiful to Leia.

Dern says her character is there to “shake things up,” and while she may be a new character to Star Wars, her motives are still shrouded in mystery. In fact, this was done intentionally, as the character was meant to create a sense of uncertainty. Do we trust Holdo or not? Even Poe isn’t sure if he can trust her.

Added Isaac:

“She doesn’t particularly look like your typical military leader, and so I think there’s a bit of distrust for Poe. He’s not sure what to make of her, and then the way she speaks, the things she says.”

It’s not as though conflicts within the same ranks is a foreign concept to Star Wars, but it will certainly have an impact in how the Resistance will finally be able to bring down the First Order, for good.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi opens in theaters on December 15, 2017.
