Marvel Studios Vanity Fair header

Marvel Studios has launched a successful superhero shared universe and will have four Avengers ensemble films. Getting even one with six heroes sharing the screen was a crazy enough idea as it is. But here we are, 17 films in, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe is still expanding and shows no signs of slowing down. But the future of its characters remains uncertain because much of the cast’s contracts are expiring by the end of Avengers 4. Still, there’s a lot of good and great to look back on. And in these newly released Vanity Fair covers, we are finding out what Marvel Studios has in store for their universe and what the cast thinks about leaving their characters behind. Check out the covers out here below.

The Vanity Fair photoshoot proved to be quite an event, as it gathered some 80-plus people in Atlanta to cover Marvel Studios’ proven history of success. But the shoot also symbolized that the MCU was coming to an end for most of the cast. “All good things must come to an end,” said Mark Ruffalo, who plays Bruce Banner aka The Hulk in the MCU, in the interview with the magazine. The shoot was so big that it needed four covers just to get all the characters involved in it.

On the covers, we see some of the new costumes that will appear in Avengers: Infinity War and some of the new looks that will appear in future MCU films as well. This includes a blonde Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) sporting a mohawk. These covers also reveal a better look at a suited-up Wasp (Evangeline Lilly) sans helmet. The Ant-Man And The Wasp actress told that magazine that she is certainly feeling the pressure about being in a MCU film now that she will be headlining her own.

Of course, new films gives us “slight modifications” to some of the suits that these heroes have worn throughout the franchise’s 17-film span. Vision (Paul Bettany), Captain America (Chris Evans), and War Machine (Don Cheadle) will get some very subtle changes to their suits.

Mark Ruffalo, Chadwick Boseman, Elizabeth Olsen, and Paul Rudd share a cover. The interesting thing about this is that we don’t really know their whereabouts. Does Scarlett Witch and Ant-Man stay in hiding in Wakanda? And what happened to The Hulk after Thor: Ragnarok?

Finally, Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Holland, Chris Pratt, and Gwyneth Paltrow gather for their own cover. Paltrow who was last featured in Iron Man 3, made a surprise appearance in Spider-Man: Homecoming, indicating that her MCU story wasn’t over, yet.

Check out the full coverage of this cover shoot over at Vanity Fair.
