Whenever you see a hungry carnivorous dinosaur charging at you, your first instinct will probably be to run for your life. That’s how it has been for the past four Jurassic Park films. But what if you and the dinosaurs that inhabit the island are trying outrun an active volcano? Because that’s what you will get in this very short teaser for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. The full trailer won’t appear until this coming Thursday, but just to get a sense of how much running you will see in the sequel, just check out the teaser here below.
Again, there isn’t much to see hear. We don’t know exactly what brings Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) and Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) back to the island. Justice Smith also makes an appearance as an unnamed scientist. In it, we see Owen emerge from a large billowing cloud of smoke shouting at Claire and Justice’s characters to run for their lives as a cloud of ash and smoldering rock rain down on them. As they find temporary refuge behind a broken down tour pod that was left behind in the now defunct amusement park, various dinosaurs are also running and flying for their lives as they seek refuge of their own.
We don’t know much about the film itself, Jurassic World‘s ending hinted that these dinosaurs could be used for military purposes and the idea that humans and dinosaurs could co-exist together. There was also plans to have the franchise not be about the park. While this teaser makes that point moot, it was only a 15-second spot, so who knows what we’ll get in the full one. But the teaser alone leads us to believe that humans and dinosaurs might have to co-exist together and that the three could be sent back to the island to figure out how that could work. But that’s just speculation.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom also stars Toby Jones, Rafe Spall, Justice Smith, Daniella Pineda, Ted Levine, Geraldine Chaplin, and James Cromwell. Directed By J.A. Bayona, using a script written by Derek Connolly and Colin Trevorrow, the film opens in theaters on June 22, 2018.
