Next ‘Cloverfield’ Spinoff ‘God Particle’ Pushed Back To April 2018
  |  @   |

Getting a definite release date for the tentatively titled God Particle has been touch and go. The film was scheduled for a late 2017 release but then was pushed back to February 2018.

And now, the next chapter of the Cloverfield franchise has been pushed back once more. This time to April 2018. Find out more about this in the story below.

It’s still not clear if God Particle will be the actual title of the film or if it will have anything to do with the Cloverfield franchise itself. Considering that J.J. Abrams is on board as an executive producer and the Bad Robot production banner is behind the film, there is a good chance that there is some sort of connection. Still, we have to think that if they want to link these films, it’s probably best to throw in Cloverfield somewhere in the title. Even the title doesn’t seem to be a definite thing.

According to Erik Davis, there is a strong possibility that the title could change:

Variety says it’s unclear why the film was being pushed back, but they hint at the film’s lack of marketing. But 10 Cloverfield Lane appeared seemingly out of no where, with the first trailer appearing in front of showings for Michael Bay’s 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi. That film was released in January 2016, and 10 Cloverfield Lane would hit theaters two months later. Obviously, the marketing for the sequel was unconventional, but the surprise factor was still high nonetheless. If anything, that out-of-left-field trailer generated more interest. And it showed as it was a relatively nice box office hit.

The first Cloverfield had a first-person POV storytelling. 10 Cloverfield Lane bottled its characters inside a bunker, but had no direct connection to its predecessor. So it should be interesting to see if God Particle, or whatever it will be called, will have anything new in terms of how it will tell its story.

God Particle stars an all-star cast that consists of David Oyelowo, Elizabeth Debicki, Chris O’Dowd, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Ziyi Zhang, and Daniel Brühl. Directed by Julius Onah with a screenplay by Oren Uziel and Doug Jung, the film will now hit theaters on April 20, 2018.
