SYFY Orders ‘Happy!’ Season 2
  |  @   |

I don’t get to watch a lot of new TV shows I’m interested in checking out. Mainly because I’m terrible at keeping up with them. A molasses-slow consumer of all things entertainment. If it’s not called Game of Thrones, chances are I’m way behind.

But one new show I just had to check out recently was SYFY’s Happy! and man, am I glad I did. Pretty much every way to describe how crazy the show is has been used by those who have watched it, and they’re all accurate. It’s the most batshit bonkers TV show I have ever seen. Which is why it’s so exciting to learn that SYFY has officially ordered a season two.

If you’re unfamiliar with Happy! a simple description gives you a solid idea how insane it is. The series follows an ex-cop turned hitman named Nick Sax (played brilliantly by Christopher Meloni), who is visited by his kidnapped daughter’s imaginary friend, a flying blue horse named Happy (voiced by Patton Oswalt), who wants Nick to find and save her from the man dressed as Santa Claus who took her.

The show is an adaptation of the graphic novel of the same name by Grant Morrison and Darick Robertson. It’s created, written, and produced by Morrison and Crank and Crank: High Voltage writer and director Brian Taylor, who also directed half of the first season’s episodes. Patrick Macmanus (Marco Polo) is the showrunner.

Of the announcement, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment’s President of Entertainment Networks Chris McCumber said:

“HAPPY! struck a chord with our SYFY audience and disrupted the TV landscape with its unique storytelling and outrageous performances led by Christopher Meloni. If people thought this season was crazy – I can’t wait for fans to see what Grant Morrison, Brian Taylor and the entire cast and crew have in store for Sax and Happy!”

Happy! airs on SYFY Wednesday nights at 10PM EST, with the season one finale arriving tomorrow night. But the debut season is only eight episodes total, so if you haven’t already checked it out and it looks like the kind of madness you can get behind, be sure to check it out on demand.

Here’s a couple of peeks at the first season to give those unfamiliar with the show an idea of what to expect.

  1. FYI: despite it being on basic cable, this show is monumentally NSFW (or safe for anything else). Sex, drugs, unbleeped F-bombs, etc. Naturally, I worship it. ;)

  2. This is so cool! I figured that there was no way it was going to get a second season. So Happy! to have been wrong.
