‘A Quiet Place’ Super Bowl Spot: John Krasinski and Emily Blunt Learn The Value Of Silence
  |  @   |

It’s ironic that Paramount Pictures would drop A Quiet Place TV spot during what could be the loudest game of the year, but that’s what they did during tonight’s Super Bowl broadcast. The entire film’s characters’ survival hinges on their ability to stay as quiet as possible. If they don’t, they risk being killed by shadowy hunters who hear like a bat. The film comes from director John Krasinski, who also stars in the film with his real-life actress wife Emily Blunt. While the first trailer gave us a small glimpse of what family life is like when living in silence, this new trailer throws in all the scares at you, and never misses a beat. Check out the Super Bowl spot and featurette here below.

Wonderstruck‘s Millicent Simmonds and Suburbicon‘s Noah Jupe are also in the cast. The two play Krasinski and Blunt’s kids. While the events that led up to this moment are still unclear, the film will most likely revolve around living a life of silence.

There isn’t much dialogue to work with, and considering the entire premise of the film centers on the characters staying silent to survive, we can’t really break down the writing. However, the tagline tells us “If they can’t hear you, they can’t hunt you.” Even the details on the YouTube page tells us to “Stay Silent. Stay Safe.” But one has to worry if you make a sound any other way. Which includes playing with toys or being near a creaky door.

But whatever triggered this event, it looks like there is going to be only one family to was wise enough to learn that staying quiet is the key to their survival. ANd given that this family has to do a lot of traveling to stay away from the eyes of these shadowy creatures, it gives the film a lot of world building.

In the featurette, Krasinski tells us that these monsters are everywhere. So I guess they only react to sounds. But does that mean making a sound is a threat or is it something that triggers a predatory reaction? Who knows? This will allow these characters to learn which sounds they can and cannot make. Looking at it, you may have noticed that they are walking without shoes. Taught them sign language. And lay out a path that allows them to walk as silently as possible.

Of course, words don’t mean anything unless you can see what’s going on, so check the trailers out.
