Arnold Schwarzenegger Joins Kung Fury

Hot off Michael Fassbender‘s casting in Kung Fury, comes the sequel’s latest, and probably craziest, addition. A new report says actor and former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger will be joining Fassbender and David Hasselhoff. But it’s who Schwarzenegger will be playing that should get the most laughs. Those same reports say he will be the President of the United States of America. More on the story here below.

For those who may not be familiar with what Kung Fury is, the viral film first started out as a Kickstarter project that promised over-the-top action comedy. Written and directed by David Sandberg, the film would feature arcade-robots, dinosaurs, Nazis, Vikings, Norse gods, mutants and a super kung fu-cop called Kung Fury. And all of it set in a variety of exotic locations: 1980s Miami, Asgard, and Germany in the 1940s, to name a few. So basically it’s an homage to the martial-arts and action police films of the 80s.

The Hollywood Reporter was the first to report on the news.

Fassbender, Hasselhoff, and Schwarzenegger all join Sandberg, who plays the title hero. Sandberg joins David Katzenberg, Seth Grahame-Smith, and Aaron Schmidt of IT as the film’s producers.

As the cast and crew start coming together, it looks like the film will live up to its absurdity. It’s kind of surprising that the film isn’t pulling more 80s stars, but it’s way too early to say that casting is done. I mean, we still have to find out who will be playing Kung Fuhrer, aka Adolf Hitler. Yes, in this film, Adolf Hitler is still alive and he knows Kung Fu.

Here’s the official plot synopsis:

It’s 1985, the best year ever. Miami is kept safe under the watchful eye of Kung Fury, the greatest damn cop of all time. Kung Fury’s Thundercops are the ultimate police force assembled from across history to defeat the villainous Kung Fuhrer, Adolf Hitler. After the tragic death of a Thundercop causes the group to disband, a mysterious villain emerges from the shadows to aid in the Fuhrer’s quest to attain the ultimate weapon. Kung Fury must travel through space and time itself to save his friends, defend the prestigious Miami Kung Fu Academy, and defeat evil once and for all.

There is no director or release date set for Kung Fury, but production is scheduled to take place in Europe and the United States starting this Summer. We will keep you up-to-date on the project as soon as more developments come in.
