Mackenzie Davis In Talks To Join ‘Terminator’ Reboot Cast

The popularity of the Terminator film franchise has somewhat diminished thanks to the poor reception the sequels have gotten after Terminator 2: Judgement Day. Despite that, the interest in the robot apocalypse is still there. And it will live on now in a brand new reboot from Deadpool director Tim Miller at the helm and James Cameron acting as producer. In addition to that, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton will also be returning to reprise their roles as the robotic killing machine and revolutionist against the machine oppression.
Now it has been confirmed that Blade Runner 2049 star Mackenzie Davis is in negotiations to join the cast. But she won’t be playing a character you think she will be playing. More on the story below.
Plot details are scarce now, but Variety says Davis is in talks to play “a soldier-assassin on a mission.” The article also says that Davis’s character will be one of the “new faces of rebooted franchise.” So, depending on its success, we could see more of Davis in these rebooted sequels.
However, there is still one minor hurdle to get over. Sources tell Variety that Davis has been the top choice for a while, but Cameron is the one who decides who gets cast. And the reason why he hasn’t signed off on it just yet is because he is busy filming the Avatar sequels.
Cameron might want to take a look at Davis’s filmography as the Terminator reboot is scheduled to hit theaters Summer of 2019.
THR adds that Davis might not even be the lead star of the reboot. According to their sources, producers are searching for a Latina for the story’s main role. This role would span over three movies of an intended trilogy. Their article describes Davis’s character as “a human character in a movie that once again sets up the battle between (wo)man and machine.”
Davis is no stranger to science and technology. She has had roles in The Martian and Blade Runner 2049, and was a major character in AMC’s Halt and Catch Fire.
The untitled Terminator reboot is currently scheduled to be released on July 26, 2019.
