Danny Boyle Confirms He’s Directing 25th James Bond Film

It’s been a long and exhaustive search, but Bond 25 has finally found its director. Danny Boyle, director of films like Trainspotting, Slumdog Millionaire, and 127 Hours, will helm the film.
Daniel Craig will return to reprise his role as Bond for one last time in the 25th installment of the popular James Bond franchise. Check out the full story, below.
Boyle made the confirmation in an interview with Metro NY via Variety. In it, the director says he is working on a script. However, it will not be his next film. He first has to complete a project he is working on with Richard Curtis. Here’s what he had to say:
“It all depends on that, really. I am working on a Richard Curtis script at the moment. We hope to start shooting that in six or seven weeks. Then Bond would be right at the end of the year. But we are working on them both right now.”
Boyle was one of the frontrunners to direct after Yann Demange, Denis Villeneuve, and David Mackenzie, the previous frontrunners, had all dropped out of the running for a variety of reasons. Villeneuve said he would be busy directing two Dune films, so obviously, he could not commit. But after that shortlist was revealed and no progress had been made, it was reported that Boyle was high on Eon Production’s list. Now it is all but confirmed — short of an official announcement by the studio — that he will direct the next Bond film.
“We’ve got an idea, John Hodge “” the screenwriter “” and I have got this idea, and John is writing it at the moment. And it all depends on how it turns out. It would be foolish of me to give any of it away.”
The film will mark the end of Craig’s tenure as the suave British spy. Last year, the actor confirmed he would be back for one last time. So it should be interesting to see if the film ties up any loose ends left behind by Craig’s preceding Bond films.
But this would not be the first time that Boyle and Craig have worked together on a Bond project. In 2012, Boyle directed the opening ceremonies for the Olympics in London. In it, he used Craig as Bond to help the Queen make it safely to the ceremonies. It was tongue in cheek, but fun nonetheless. Now it should be interesting to see how Boyle delivers a new Bond story.
Bond 25 is scheduled for a November 8, 2019, release.
