Stop-Motion Movie ‘Wendell and Wild’ Directed By Henry Selick and Starring Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele Coming To Netflix

If that headline isn’t jam-packed with all kinds of awesome, I don’t know what is. It’s been announced that a new stop-motion animated feature titled Wendell and Wild is coming to Netflix.

And if that’s not exciting enough, the movie is going to be directed by stop-motion legend Henry Selick (The Nightmare Before Christmas, Coraline, James and the Giant Peach) and star Keegan-Michael Key (The Lion King, The Predator) and recent Oscar winner Jordan Peele (Get Out, Big Mouth), the duo behind Key and Peele and Keanu.

Details on what Wendell and Wild will be about have not yet been shared. All we know at the moment is that Key and Peele will voice two scheming demon brothers.

The movie is based on an idea by Selick, who will also pen the screenplay along with Clay McLeod Chapman (The Boy) and Peele. Related to the film, a deal has also been reached with publisher Simon & Schuster for a book that will be written by Selick and Chapman to be released around the same time as the movie.

Selick hasn’t directed a feature since adapting Neil Gaiman’s Coraline almost a decade ago. He has, however, been attached to a number of projects. He was set to adapt another Gaiman work, The Graveyard Book, back in 2012, but nothing ever came of it. He was working on a project at Disney at one point, but they pulled the plug on that. Then he was attached to direct a live-action fantasy film titled A Tale Dark and Grimm in 2013, but again, nothing came of it. That would have been only his second live-action feature after 2001’s Monkeybone, which still mixed in some animation.

Finally, last year it was announced that Selick would be directing the pilot episode for a TV series based on one of the best games of last year, Little Nightmares, which is being developed by Avengers: Infinity War director Anthony and Joe Russo. No word on where that project currently stands.

A release window for Wendell and Wild is not yet known. Stay tuned!
