Tessa Thompson Could Reunite With Chris Hemsworth For ‘Men In Black’ Reboot
  |  @   |

When it was announced that Chris Hemsworth was in talks for the Men in Black reboot, we learned that Sony was looking for a woman of color to fill the role of his partner. Now it looks like the studio has found that person. And it’s someone that Hemsworth already knows.

New reports confirm that Tessa Thompson has joined the cast. Which means Thompson, who played Valkyrie in Thor: Ragnarok, could appear alongside Hemsworth as his partner. More on the story below.

THR was the first to report on the news. The film, which is set to be directed by F. Gary Gray, will mirror Jurassic World in terms of narrative transition. So the film will still be a reboot, but operate in the world that was established by Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones’ Agents J and K.

According to the report, the film will have a more global aspect than its predecessors. The first three MiB films were set in New York, where the local base of operations was in constant contact with different branches which stretched as far out as Antarctica, where Michael Jackson’s character was stationed.

It would be fun to see what the other divisions are like and if their respective cultures handle ET crime and immigration differently than their New York counterparts.

Thompson recently appeared in Alex Garland’s Annihilation. She first appeared alongside Hemsworth in Thor: Ragnarok, where she played Valkyrie, a fearless warrior looking for redemption after she was soundly defeated by Hela. She is currently shooting Creed II, a film that also reunites her with Michael B. Jordan. You can see her next in Annapurna’s Sorry to Bother You and season two of HBO’s Westworld.

Though it’s expected to get worked out, it’s important to note that Hemsworth’s deal isn’t closed as of yet. So it may fall through, leaving the studio looking for a partner for Thompson’s character. But honestly, I’d like to see the two reunite for something other than a Marvel film. That is if Valkyrie somehow manages to survive her encounter with Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War.

We’ll keep you posted on any new developments when they come in.
