‘Westworld’ Season 2 Trailer: It’s A Cowboy World Out There, We Just Live In Its “Heart-Shaped Box”
  |  @   |

The one thing I am fascinated about with HBO’s Westworld is its use of piano ballad cover songs. Sure the mystery of the world and the sci-fi elements have their intrigue, but the music and how it’s woven into the narrative is much more fun to figure out and break down.

So when you hear something like Nirvana’s “Heart-Shaped Box” play in the newest trailer for the upcoming second season, you have to wonder, why did they use that song. Check out the latest trailer for Westworld season 2, below.

Season 2 looks like it will pick up right where season 1 left off, with the robotic hosts now gaining sentience and are looking to rise against their human overlords. Though some agendas may not align with others as we also see Maeve (Thandie Newton) use Lee Sizemore (Simon Quarterman) to help find her daughter. At the same time, Delos corporate heads and security are trying to regain control over the park. And The Man In Black (Ed Harris) has something up his sleeve. One thing is for sure, it’s going to be a bloodbath that stretches across Westworld, Shogunworld, and maybe even our world.

And the trailer doesn’t help us figure out what season 2 will be about. It just adds more ambiguous layers to an already perplexing world. There isn’t even an official plot synopsis, at least that I know of. And there seems like there will be a lot going on during the upcoming season. How it all ties in together remains to be seen. But at least we got a descent look at Shogunworld.

The trailer’s use of “Heart-Shaped Box” is simultaneously beautiful, chilling, and haunting. Just when you think you’ve heard something magnificent, here comes another song you’d thought you’d never hear in a ballad cover.
