Solo: A Star Wars Story #2

Geeks of Doom was recently invited to join fellow journalists to attend a special preview event of Denny’s Solo: A Star Wars Story themed menu. While the food that was sampled was pretty good, it’s what was shown at the event that caught our eye.

During the preview, the diner franchise gave us a look at the new commercial for their new menu. And while you may not see any spoilers, just know that Denny’s worked with Lucasfilm and Skywalker Sound to make their ad as cinematic as possible. Check out the commercial below.

The event was also held to help raise awareness for their campaign to give meals to needy children. So in conjunction with their menu, they will also be selling Topps character trading cards. Each sealed deck will have two cards, plus two bonus cards which are coupons that you can use for your next meal. There 12 exclusive collectible cards in total as well as collector cups with a very cool Millennium Falcon cup topper.

A portion of all sales from the $3 trading card packs–with a minimum guaranteed donation of $1 million-will be donated to No Kid Hungry to help provide meals to children in need.

ÍžThe TV spot, called “Hand of Sabacc,” is set inside the lodge from Solo: A Star Wars Story. If the production value of this ad looks high, it’s because the Denny’s worked on it with Lucasfilm and Skywalker Sound. Together with acclaimed production designer Neil Lamont and Oscar-winning creature and special makeup effects supervisor Neal Scanlan, who both worked on Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Star Wars: The Force Awakens, they created an authentic Star Wars environment for the spot.

In the ad we can see two young boys, as Han and Lando respectively, playing a game of Sabacc. The winner, of course, gets to go home with the legendary Millennium Falcon. Only thing is, the ad switches back to reality, and it turns out that the two are simply figuring out which character cards they have and are willing to trade for.

As for Denny’s themed menu, fans can now enjoy Co-Reactor Pancakes with fresh strawberries, strawberry sauce, and whipped cream plus a side of Crystal Crunch Rocks and a pitcher of warm citrus sauce to pour over the pancakes; the Blaster Fire Burger, which includes chipotle gouda cheese, bacon, and a spicy ghost pepper sauce; and also the Two Moons Skillet and Denny’s Lightspeed Slam. You can also add some of those Crystal Crunch Rocks to your favorite milk shake if you want. The menu itself will be available until June 26th.

Solo: A Star Wars Story opens in theaters on May 25, 2018. Click right here for more including the teaser trailer.
