The tragedy of the first Deadpool was that the merc with a potty mouth and a heart of gold was suffering from a deadly form of cancer. He went to great lengths to cure himself of the disease by going to a shadowy organization who claimed they could cure him. But he found himself looking like the thing he was trying to cure. So he took his outrage on those who made him that way.
But now it is time to give back, and what better way to do that than a fourth wall breaking charity campaign. Ryan Reynolds along with Omaze are running a new campaign to support Fuck Cancer, which offers fans the chance to win a one-of-a-kind PINK Deadpool costume. The launch of this campaign coincides with the release of the upcoming Deadpool 2. Check out the video below.
Deadpool explains the reason why he is wearing a pink suit is so that everyone knows that he has a “big ol’ heart on.” Get it? He says pink is one of his new obsessions, although he stresses it has nothing to do with the singer. But the true purpose of pink for cancer awareness.
The campaign’s Omaze page also offers some other options, suggesting that you wear it to the grocery store but not to your friend’s wedding – personally, I think that would be great.
Obviously, the decision is yours.
Unlike Kickstarter or any other crowdfunding sites, Omaze runs a lot like a raffle. You purchase a certain amount of tickets at a set price. For $10, you will get 100 entries. That goes up if you purchase a higher tier, which also increases your chances of winning.
Here’s a brief description of LetsFCancer’s purpose:
“LetsFCancer believes that people diagnosed with cancer, as well as their families and support network, should have equitable access to early detection, prevention and psychosocial support. This incredible organization creates campaigns around behavior change and promotes scientifically proven routes for cancer prevention. It supports and runs programs around early dectecion and screening, in addition to providing psychosocial support to their community through retreats and events. And it provides the cancer community with a space to be heard, feel connected and unite both digitally and in person. LetsFCancer’s not just an organization, it’s a movement. Thanks for joining.”
