The Endless Header Image

A new low-budget supernatural thriller titled The Endless is being released in limited theaters today. The feature comes from the team of Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, who are known for directing the indie flicks Resolution and Spring.

In addition to handling pretty much all aspects of making the film—a script penned by Benson, directing, producing, editing, and cinematography—Benson and Moorhead also star this time around. They play brothers who return to a cult they escaped from only to discover that the cult’s beliefs might not be as crazy as they once thought.

You can read more about The Endless and check out a trailer, some clips, and a poster below.

It’s not often a movie this small gets a theatrical release, especially these days. It isn’t playing everywhere, so a lot of you might not even have the option to see it right away, but as you can see from this Reddit post by Moorhead, it’s monumentally helpful if those who can see it do so this opening weekend, which could lead to the movie expanding to more theaters across the country:

Esquire just called our movie THE ENDLESS #5 film of 2018, and holds 100% on RT. Opening weekends are incredibly important for indie films, please make a showing for this indie horror this month!

Apologies for shilling, but indie filmmaking means you have to promote your own film or you’re not doing your duty.

The Endless was made hand-over-fist with my co-filmmaker /u/justin_benson, and we love it to death. Like our last films SPRING and RESOLUTION, we put everything we had into it — directing, producing, cinematography, vfx and editing (and this time, acting) along with our beautiful mini-army of collaborators. We have no studio backing, and in fact, our financiers for this film found us through this subreddit.

Despite all that, we somehow were able to score a traditional limited theatrical release for the film — that is, it’s not releasing on VOD/iTunes etc on the same day, it’s only on the big screen.

This is the important part: how well it performs in theatres, especially opening weekend, directly determines both how long it stays in those theatres, and how many more theatres it will expand to.

So get your Moviepass ready — please go support an indie film as it rolls into theatres this month!

Also starring in The Endless is Callie Hernandez, Emily Montague, Lew Temple, Tate Ellington, and James Jordan.

Be sure to check the official website to see if it’s playing anywhere near you.

Trailer

Following their Lovecraftian modern cult classic SPRING, writer/directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead star as brothers who receive a mysterious message inspiring them to pay a visit to the cult they escaped as children. As unsettling events and phenomena begin to occur, the brothers are forced to question whether the cult’s supernatural beliefs might not be entirely made up – and if, now that they’ve returned, they’ll be allowed to leave again.
