Avengers: Infinity War

Yes, blockbuster tentpoles as anticipated as Avengers: Infinity War generally market themselves. There has been an abundance of promotional material hitting the web recently, and now we are getting a small peek at how much the film could end up making on its opening weekend.

According to a new report, Avengers: Infinity War is on track to have a $200 million-plus opening. More on the story below.

Deadline says if Avengers: Infinity War does hit that mark, it would be one of the highest grossing April films, ever. It would even surpass Furious 7 ($147M) and Fate of the Furious ($98.7M), the previous record holders.

Variety also confirms that the large opening is very possible. They add “only seven other films in history have topped $175 million in their debuts and only five have hit the $200 million mark.” Those five films are:

  • 1 – Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($247.2 million)
  • 2 – Star Wars: The Last Jedi ($220 million)
  • 3 – Jurassic World ($208.8 million)
  • 4 – The Avengers ($207.4 million)
  • 5 – Black Panther ($202 million)

The remaining films with a $200-plus debut had the luxury of opening on a holiday weekend. For instance, Avengers: Age Of Ultron grossed $204.4 million in its four-day debut, while Captain America: Civil War earned $206.1 million in its five-day debut. These numbers came from BoxOfficeMojo.

Still, if it does manage to hit that $200-plus debut, it’s going to be huge for the studio. For one thing, this is a culmination of 10 years and 18 films, with a total of 22 heroes gathering together for one single film. It’s something that everyone knew was coming and something that everyone has been eagerly awaiting.

Here’s the official plot synopsis:

Iron Man, Thor, the Hulk and the rest of the Avengers unite to battle their most powerful enemy yet “” the evil Thanos. On a mission to collect all six Infinity Stones, Thanos plans to use the artifacts to inflict his twisted will on reality. The fate of the planet and existence itself has never been more uncertain as everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment.

Directd by Anthony and Joe Russo, Avengers: Infinity War opens on April 27, 2018.
