Netflix Orders Vampire Series Based On Jonathan Maberry’s ‘V-Wars’ Starring Ian Somerhalder
  |  @   |

Netflix has given the greenlight to V-Wars, a new vampire series based on the Jonathan Maberry novel of the same name published by IDW Publishing.

The streaming service made a 10-episode straight-to-series order for the show, which is set to star someone who’s no stranger to vampire television series, Ian Somerhalder. The actor played Damon Salvatore in 171 episodes of The Vampire Diaries, and also starred on LOST and in movies like Pulse and The Rules of Attraction.

Here’s a description of V-Wars:

In the series, Somerhalder will star as Dr. Luther Swann, who enters a world of untold horror when a mysterious disease transforms his best friend, Michael Fayne, into a murderous predator who feeds on other humans. As the disease spreads and more people are transformed, society fractures into opposing camps pitting normal people against the growing number of these “vampires.” Swann races against time to understand what’s happening, while Fayne rises to become the powerful underground leader of the vampires.

Of the announcement, IDW Entertainment president David Ozer said:

“We could not have dreamed of a better choice than Ian Somerhalder to bring his keen understanding of this genre from his years of starring in The Vampire Diaries to lead the cast of V-Wars as Dr. Luther Swann and to be a creative force on this series, as well as to serve as a director this season. We are thrilled to partner with Netflix to bring the multifaceted world that Jonathan Maberry created to audiences worldwide.”

Handling showrunner duties on the series will be William Laurin and Glenn Davis (1-800-Missing, Aftermath). Directing and executive producing is Brad Turner, who has previously directed episodes of many different TV series including 21 Jump Street, The Outer Limits [1995-2002], The Twilight Zone [2002], Dead Like Me, Battlestar Galactica [2004], Smallville, Alias, Stargate SG-1, Stargate: Atlantis, Bones, Prison Break, 24, Homeland, The Originals, Psych, Daredevil, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to name a few.

No word yet on when we can expect to see V-Wars. If you haven’t read Maberry’s novel and want to help pass the time, you can pick up a copy over at Amazon.
