Thanos in Avengers Infinity War

Yes, James Cameron says he hopes Avengers fatigue hits audiences sometime soon. But with Avengers: Infinity War grossing $630 million worldwide in its opening weekend, that’s probably not going to happen anytime soon. The highly anticipated Marvel Studios film made its debut last weekend, and broke several box office records (and our emotions, but that’s a subject for another post). The full story here below.

Forbes says Avengers: Infinity War has earned an estimated $630 million worldwide, making it the highest global opening weekend of all time without even counting China, where its set to open on May 11. The film beat two other record holders, the first being Fate Of The Furious, which held the record for the largest worldwide opening with $541.9 million.

Avengers: Infinity War also became the highest grossing domestic film, earning $250 million at the box office. The record was previously held by Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which opened with $248 million at the box office.

According to BoxOfficeMojo, Avengers: Infinity War‘s Friday opening ($106 million) was second to Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($119 million); it broke the record for highest Saturday opening ($83 million) – a record once held by Jurassic World ($69 million) – and the one for Sunday opening ($61 million) – a record once held by Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($60.5 million).

The new Marvel film has received high marks from audiences and critics alike – check out my review if you haven’t already. It has an 84% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an A grade on CinemaScore.

Here’s the official plot synopsis:

Avengers: Infinity War picks up as the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, but a dangerous menace has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, Thanos will stop at nothing to collect all six Infinity Stones in his quest to wield unimaginable power and his twisted will on all of humanity.

Assembling a team that includes members from every Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise, the Avengers and their Super Hero allies must sacrifice like never before in an attempt to defeat the powerful Thanos before his blitz of devastation and ruin puts an end to the universe. An unprecedented cinematic journey 10 years in the making with the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe in play, Avengers: Infinity War brings to the screen the ultimate, deadliest showdown of all time.

Avengers: Infinity War is out in theaters now.
