Damien Chazelle captured the spirit of song and dance in his first two major directorial efforts. However, he is doing something different for his third outing. He will shoot for the moon. Literally.

Universal Pictures has released the first trailer for First Man starring Ryan Gosling as Neil Armstrong. Check out the first trailer below.

While there have been some notable films based on true stories, First Man will be one of the first times that we get to see a biopic based on Neil Armstrong, the first man who stepped on the moon. But as far as biopics go, this one seems to be by the books. And that is alright. We do get to see Chazelle step outside of his comfort zone. But at the same time we also get to see him reunite with his new muse, Gosling.

And the trailer pretty much sells us on the “what if the mission goes wrong” and other hypotheticals. Although, we pretty much know what his answer will be. That being said, the suspense and drama are there. So it should be interesting to see how Chazelle makes this true-life space film his own.

Claire Foy, of Netflix’s The Crown and the upcoming Girl in the Spider’s Web, will play Janet, Armstrong’s wife.

Jason Clarke, Kyle Chandler, Patrick Fugit, Ciaran Hinds, Ethan Embry, Shea Whigham, Corey Stoll, and Pablo Schreiber round out the cast.

Written by Academy Award® winner Josh Singer (Spotlight), the drama is produced by Wyck Godfrey & Marty Bowen (The Twilight Saga, The Fault in Our Stars) through their Temple Hill Entertainment banner, alongside Chazelle and Gosling. Isaac Klausner (The Fault in Our Stars) executive produces. DreamWorks Pictures co-finances the film.

Universal has scheduled First Man for an October 12, 2018, release.
