He doesn’t call. He doesn’t write. Joe Biden is feeling abandoned by his former bestie, Barack Obama, since the end of their administration. When a close friend is found dead on the train tracks, Amtrak Joe is compelled to follow up, especially when his name is among the dead man’s belongings. When his BFF finally shows up with pertinent info, Biden is on the case. He, Obama, and Steve, the Secret Service guy, embark on a super fun adventure. However, can Joe Biden get past his flat-left hurt in order to trust the Former President of the United States once again?

More below on Hope Never Dies: An Obama Biden Mystery by Andrew Schaffer.

What a unique idea! I’m so mad I didn’t think of it first. This book takes a genuine mystery, and puts two of my favorite humans at the front and center. Without Joe Biden and Barack Obama the mystery works well… I followed the clues, I was surprised by the trail of evidence, the action was appropriate, and I was surprised by the ending and how everything fit together. And these two just made the crime solving incredibly better. Move over Holmes and Watson!

The bromance is in full effect in this fictional caper, and you can hear their voices as they interact the way you knew them to be during their reign. Biden is the lead protagonist and is the fiery outspoken Laverne to Obama’s thoughtful, quieter Shirley. They bring up their past and politics in a fun, not-hating-your-family-over-party kind of way. There’s also fighting, drugs, bikers, car chases, violence, and death in this action-packed novel. What’s not to love?

This is a fantastic book. It brought back the nostalgia of my favorite team with a great storyline. I flew through it and am looking forward to more in a pulp series. I’m especially crossing my fingers that Obama and Biden will agree to voice the audiobook. Come on guys, pretty please?

Because you know what? Hope Never Dies.

Official Synopsis:

This mystery thriller reunites Vice President Joe Biden and President Barack Obama for a political mashup full of suspense, intrigue, and laugh out loud bromance.

Vice President Joe Biden is fresh out of the Obama White House and feeling adrift when his favorite railroad conductor dies in a suspicious accident, leaving behind an ailing wife and a trail of clues. To unravel the mystery, “Amtrak Joe” re-teams with the only man he’s ever fully trusted–the 44th president of the United States. Together they’ll plumb the darkest corners of Delaware, traveling from cheap motels to biker bars and beyond, as they uncover the sinister forces advancing America’s opioid epidemic.

Part noir thriller and part bromance novel, Hope Never Dies is essentially the first published work of Obama/Biden fanfiction–and a cathartic read for anyone distressed by the current state of affairs.
