Confirmed: ‘Deadwood’ Movie Officially On The Way At HBO
  |  @   |

We’ve been hearing about a possible Deadwood movie for a while now. It was reported back in 2015 that HBO was considering a follow-up to the western TV series, which ended its three-season run 12 years ago now in 2006. In early 2016 it sounded like HBO had given the greenlight to the movie, though apparently that was just a verbal commitment. Then, later in 2016, came word that series creator David Milch was working on the screenplay for the movie.

We got a brief update on the movie’s status last year, but for the most part things have been relatively quiet the past couple of years. But now business is really picking up. HBO’s president of programming Casey Bloys movie has officially confirmed that the Deadwood is on the way and will hopefully begin filming soon.

Bloys made the announcement during the 2018 Television Critics Association summer press tour. According to him, the movie is looking at an October production start with hopes of having it ready to premiere by spring of 2019.

It’s also been revealed that Daniel Minahan, who directed multiple episodes of Deadwood during its run, is set to helm the movie.

The only real challenge now—and the most likely thing to delay the above mentioned timetable—is finding the perfect window for the show’s cast to reunite and get it filmed. Most of them are quite busy, and when asked about this Bloys simply said “Let’s take the green light and celebrate that.”
