Game of Thrones S8 2019

That empty feeling Game of Thrones fans are feeling may be due to the fact that there is no new season this year. However, they can breathe easier knowing that the eighth and final season is going to air next year. While there is no definite timetable set yet, HBO has announced that the final six episodes will arrive in the first half of 2019.

Plus, there is more about those spinoffs and how some of them have been put to rest. Check out the full story, below.

Per THR, speaking at this year’s Television Critics Association summer press tour, HBO programming president Casey Bloys announced that the final six episodes of the final season of Game of Thrones will air on the first half of 2019. Well, that is really vague. But I guess it’s better than waiting out another entire year. For all we know, it could premiere in June.

Still, Bloys offered us this little bit about the final season:

“I’m not going to say what to expect, though it’s pretty great.”

Okay, maybe that’s not much of an answer either. But let’s just hope that he is right about the final season.

So as fans are getting ready to storm the castle, HBO is gearing up for their Game of Thrones prequel spinoff. Based on earlier reports, there were multiple spinoffs in development at once, however, it’s the one being worked on by George R.R. Martin and Jane Goldman that ultimately got the first greenlight. The series will focus on “The Long Night,” an event where the humans and white walkers had their first battle with each other.

Here’s how Deadline describes the event:

“The world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. And only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros’ history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend”¦ it’s not the story we think we know.”

Bloys added that there are some that are still other spinoffs being considered, but he did not specify which ones. Additionally, Bloys said they were looking for directors to helm episodes for the new spinoff.

Martin, the author and creator of the “Song of Ice and Fire” book series that Game of Thrones is based on, also wrote about the prequel spinoff on his blog:

“This one really puts the pre in prequel, since it is set not ninety years before Game of Thrones (like Dunk & Egg), or a few hundred years, but rather ten thousand years (well, assuming the oral histories of the First Men are accurate, but there are maesters at the Citadel who insist it has only been half that long). We’re very early in the process, of course, with the pilot order just in.”

We will be sure to keep you posted on any developments and the release date when news of that comes in. Until then, we have to be patient.
