‘Maniac’ Trailer: Emma Stone and Jonah Hill Participate In A Mind-Bending Experiment
  |  @   |

Questioning the nature of reality seems to be a common theme in shows nowadays. And we will get to see that in the new Netflix series Maniac starring Emma Stone and Jonah Hill. The series comes from True Detective season 1 director Cary Fukunaga and sees its characters participating in a mysterious pharmaceutical trial that puts them in alternate realities while those conducting the experiment find themselves on opposite sides of the ethics of the experiment.

Check out the latest trailer here below.

Maniac‘s trailer is a just a small glimpse into this world that will flip back and forth from realities. First, we see the trial facility, which doesn’t have any distinct items or pieces of technology to tell us when this could take place. There are slides, polygraph machines, and other retro set pieces that tell us this could take place in a forgotten time. But even the realities tell us that Annie Landsberg (Stone) and Owen Milgrim (Hill) will explore more historic eras, like the roaring 20s, maybe a Cuban missile crisis, and more.

It all looks like one scary fun mind trip. Each time the scientist carry out an experiment that separate Annie and Owen, they find a way to get back together. And it looks like it will take a toll on them in the real world as well as they tell themselves they do not know what’s real anymore. It’s a scary thought and one that has not been explored in this kind of style. It should be very interesting to see how it all plays out.

Here’s the official plot synopsis:

Set in a world somewhat like our world, in a time quite similar to our time, Maniac tells the stories of Annie Landsberg (Emma Stone) and Owen Milgrim (Jonah Hill), two strangers drawn to the late stages of a mysterious pharmaceutical trial, each for their own reasons. Annie’s disaffected and aimless, fixated on broken relationships with her mother and her sister; Owen, the fifth son of wealthy New York industrialists, has struggled his whole life with a disputed diagnosis of schizophrenia.

Neither of their lives have turned out quite right, and the promise of a new, radical kind of pharmaceutical treatment””a sequence of pills its inventor, Dr. James K. Mantleray (Justin Theroux), claims can repair anything about the mind, be it mental illness or heartbreak””draws them and ten other strangers to the facilities of Neberdine Pharmaceutical and Biotech for a three-day drug trial that will, they’re assured, with no complications or side-effects whatsoever, solve all of their problems, permanently. Things do not go as planned.

Maniac will premiere exclusively on Netflix this fall on September 21, 2018.
