Samuel L. Jackson and Cobie Smulders Added To ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’
  |  @   |

Tom Holland was always going to return for a Spider-Man sequel. Now with Spider-Man: Far From Home in production, we know that he won’t be alone. New reports say that Samuel L. Jackson and Cobie Smulders will be joining him in the Homecoming sequel. Both will be reprising their respective MCU roles (Nick Fury and Maria Hill) in Spider-Man’s latest adventure, which takes him across the Atlantic to face off against some new foes.

More on the story below. Oh, of course, minor spoilers will follow.

Vulture (no, not Michael Keaton) was the first to confirm the casting, but could not provide any other information beyond that. So, now the question is, how will anyone — Spider-Man, Nick Fury, and Maria Hill — return? Especially when they are just dust in the wind.

Obviously, we won’t know that answer until Avengers 4. And eagle-eyed fans will be scouring leaked photos and social media for any possible clues.

The casting also marks the first time that either Fury or Hill have appeared in a Spider-Man film. Yes, I realize there has only been one MCU Spider-Man film, but still, it should be interesting to see what kinds of roles the characters will have in a post-Avengers 4 world. Maybe the two will provide some superhero tutelage in Iron Man’s absence or maybe they will give Spider-Man an assist with a spiffy new Spidey suit. Rumor has it, Spider-Man will be ditching the Iron Spider-Man suit in favor of the traditional red and blues.

It’s still not clear what Spider-Man: Far From Home will be about. However, we do have a slight idea of who the villains could be. For one thing, Jake Gyllenhaal will play Mysterio, a villain who utilizes Hollywood special effects to commit his crimes. Numan Acar will play Dmitri – this character shares the name with The Chameleon (Dmitri Smerdyakov), a master of disguise and the half-brother of Kraven the Hunter.

As for the returning cast, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, and Tony Revolori are all expected to be back. Michael Keaton is also said to return to reprise his role as Vulture.

Production is currently underway in Europe, where the film is said to have a semester abroad plot. But it’s going to be a while before we learn of anything from Far Home Home.

Spider-Man: Far From Home will swing into theaters on July 5, 2019.
