The surprising thing about Luca Guadagnino‘s vision for a new Suspiria that will hook audiences may be an actual hook. And lots of other mysterious happenings that will keep them in suspense.
At least that’s what we can expect thanks to the newly released trailer, where a dance academy may not be just a dance academy. Check out the full trailer below.
There appears to be a lot of restraint in this trailer, which leads us to believe that whatever is at the next corner or will be revealed is something very unsuspecting. I love that air of mystery the trailer has that will keep us invested in the film. Though it may not be like your conventional studio suspenseful film, and that may rub some audiences off the wrong way. Heck, even some critics might be taken aback by what they see. But that may be just what hooks me in.
Guadagnino has gathered some impressive talents for Suspiria. The cast is made up of Tilda Swinton, Dakota Johnson, Chloë Grace Moretz, Mia Goth, and original Suspiria actress Jessica Harper. In addition to that, he recruited Radiohead’s Thom Yorke to create a hauntingly chilling score.
Here’s the official plot synopsis:
As a darkness builds at the center of a world-renowned dance company, its artistic director (Tilda Swinton), a young American new to the troupe (Dakota Johnson), and a grieving psychotherapist (Lutz Ebersdorf) become entangled in a bloody, sighing nightmare.
And, of course, there are those who will make a few comparisons to Dario Argento’s original. While we can expected more of an updated take, the remake does have a stark contrast when it comes to its use of color. Where the original was drenched in red, Guadagnio’s take seems to take a more reserved approach to its use of color. In fact, there is a glaring lack of it. This will most likely create some much-needed distance between the two films. So we will just have to wait and see how everyone will react to it.
Suspiria opens worldwide on November 2, 2018. If you missed it, you can check out the previously released teaser trailer for the film here as well.
