‘Apostle’ Trailer: Dan Stevens Infiltrates One Very Scary Cult
  |  @   |

Gareth Evans may be known for the Indonesian actioner franchise The Raid, but the Welsh director is taking on a new kind of film. Apostle is a religious-based horror period piece starring Dan Stevens, as a man who is sent to an island to infiltrate a secret cult so that he can rescue his sister who is being held for ransom. As the search is perilous, we come to find out that this cult is not this shining beacon of hope it claims to be. In fact, there is something far more sinister. Check out the full trailer here below.

Apostle will make its debut at Fantastic Fest later this week before making its premiere on Netflix later next month.

This isn’t the first time that Evans has directed something other than The Raid films. He was one of the directors behind the V/H/S 2 horror anthology. In fact, in his portion, titled Safe Haven, there was a cult. So he is familiar with some of the themes. But in Apostle, we get to see something on a much larger scale. And this thing looks scary.

Here’s the official plot synopsis:

London, 1905. Prodigal son Thomas Richardson (Dan Stevens) has returned home, only to learn that his sister is being held for ransom by a religious cult. Determined to get her back at any cost, Thomas travels to the idyllic island where the cult lives under the leadership of the charismatic Prophet Malcolm (Michael Sheen). As Thomas infiltrates the island’s community, he learns that the corruption of mainland society that they claim to reject has infested the cult’s ranks nonetheless – and uncovers a secret far more evil than he could have imagined. Written and directed by Gareth Evans (THE RAID), APOSTLE is a harrowing occult fable where the only thing more horrifying than madness is the sinister reality behind it.

Apostle also stars Lucy Boynton, Mark Lewis Jones, Bill Milner, Kristine Froseth, Paul Higgins and Michael Sheen. It debuts on Netflix on October 2, 2018.
