Marvel Female Superhero Show From ‘Wonder Woman’ Writer Coming To ABC
  |  @   |

Marvel female superheroes are slowly, but surely, having more of an onscreen presence in the MCU. There’s Sky and Agent Carter on the TV front, while Jessica Jones has her series on Netflix. Wasp shared a title billing with Ant-Man in Ant-Man and the Wasp, and we recently saw the first trailer for Captain Marvel. Disney also announced that they would be having a Scarlet Witch series on Disney Play. And now, we can expect to see even more female superheroes on ABC.

New reports confirm that there will be a new group of lesser known Marvel female superheroes coming to the small screen from Wonder Woman writer Allan Heinberg. More on the story below.

Per Deadline, ABC has made a commitment to an hour-long series about lesser-known Marvel characters that will be written by Heinberg. While they could not elaborate on any of the details, there is speculation that it could be about A-Force, Lady Liberators, and Fearless Defenders. Those groups are specifically made up of female superheroes.

Though there are a handful of contenders that could make the roster, it’s very unlikely characters like Black Widow, Mantis, Gamora, Valkyrie, Jessica Jones, Misty Knight, and others will appear since they have their own movie and shows. But many are hoping to see She-Hulk in it. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Apparently, ABC has been looking to get another series off the ground for a while. With Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. looking like it’s on its last legs, and the Inhumans bomb, the network will need something superheroic in order to keep up with the CW’s success. And it looks like Heinberg’s show could be it. According to reports, his show was a strong contender.

Heinberg’s other credits include The Naked Truth, Party of Five, Sex and the City, Gilmore Girls, The O.C., Grey’s Anatomy, Looking, and Scandal. He developed, wrote, and ran ABC’s The Catch. As you can see, he has a very strong relationship with the network, having been involved with at least three of their shows. Not only that, but Heinberg’s untitled female superhero show would fit into the mold of hour-long dramas featuring strong female characters as the lead.

But Marvel fans shouldn’t be put off by his credit to Wonder Woman. Heinberg also created and wrote Young Avengers and its sequel, Avengers: The Children’s Crusade with co-creator/artist Jim Cheung.

So as Marvel Studios tries to gather their female superheroes together for a cinematic team-up, it looks like Marvel Television will get things kicked off sooner. Of course, we will keep you posted on any developments should they come in.
