‘Vice’ Trailer: Adam McKay’s Latest Transforms Christian Bale Into An Infamous VP
  |  @   |

Christian Bale has done a few things to get into character. He lost enough weight to become nothing but skin and bone in The Machinist. He bulked up for The Dark Knight trilogy. Now he will do something that is opposite all of that and become almost unrecognizable. Gain weight to become Vice President Dick Cheney.

A new trailer for Adam McKay‘s Vice has just been released by Annapurna Pictures, and it gives us a glimpse at another possible awards contender. Check out the trailer below.

Following the award-winning The Big Short, McKay goes for something more political by giving us a film that will have audiences “Discover the untold story that changed the course of history forever.” And he’s brought in some frequent collaborators to join him in this biographical comedy about the VP. Amy Adams plays Cheney’s wife Lynne; Steve Carell is Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld; Tyler Perry will be Secretary of State Colin Powell; and Sam Rockwell plays George W. Bush.

The trailer only gives us a small tease at what could be covered in this film. Some of the most notable Cheney headlines will hopefully appear in the film, from his involvement in politics to the accidental shooting during a hunt. There are some who theorize that it was Cheney who was really acting as the president. And while that can’t be proven, the film could probably offer more evidence to that theory.

McKay is no stranger to helming hot-button social, economic, and political films. He demonstrated that in films like The Other Guys, which addressed Ponzi schemes. Then went with something more dramatic with The Big Short, which covered the financial crisis of 2007-2008. The film went on to win multiple Academy Awards, but more importantly, it showed that he can be a versatile director by handling different genres.

Now we will get to see how the power of politics can have an effect on a nation. As Vice suggests, we will see the untold story about the man who would change the course of history forever. That may sound a bit overly dramatic at first, but when you are in a position of power like Cheney, there is no way you do not have any influence on the future of the world.

Here’s the official plot synopsis:

VICE explores the epic story about how a bureaucratic Washington insider quietly became the most powerful man in the world as Vice-President to George W. Bush, reshaping the country and the globe in ways that we still feel today.

Jesse Plemons, Alison Pill, Lily Rabe, Tyler Perry, Justin Kirk, LisaGay Hamilton, Shea Whigham, and Eddie Marsan also star.

Vice opens in theaters nationwide on December 25, 2018.
