Michael Chaves To Direct ‘The Conjuring 3’; James Wan Will Produce
  |  @   |

The Conjuring has come a long way since its debut back in 2013. Not only have there been sequels, but there have also been spin-offs. In fact, there is an entire universe based on The Conjuring.

And that is all thanks in part to James Wan. Wan, who directed the first two Conjuring films, seemed like he would be closing out the trilogy. However, that’s not the case anymore. Wan will be stepping away from The Conjuring 3, and letting Michael Chaves take over directorial duties. But Wan won’t be too far away as he will still be a producer on the film. More on the story below.

The report comes to us from Deadline who says Chaves will be directing the film and use a script written by The Conjuring 2 writer David Leslie Johnson. The film will see the return of 1970s paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson, Vera Farmiga), though it’s not clear which case they will be working on this time around.

Wan has been a major fixture in The Conjuring Universe since its inception back in 2013. But he has also taken a break from the horror genre to direct action films like Furious 7 and Aquaman.

As for Chaves, he directed New Line’s The Curse of La Llorona. So directing The Conjuring 3 is a bit of a reunion for him. According to Deadline, Chaves was discovered after directing a horror short titled The Maiden.

The Curse of La Llorona, which is not a part of The Conjuring Universe, centers on the eerie warning of a troubled mother suspected of child endangerment, and a social worker and her own small kids are drawn into a frightening supernatural realm. The film was previewed at Comic-Con last year, where it was met with high praise.

No word yet on when The Conjuring 3 could be released. The Nun, the most recent spinoff to come from the cinematic universe, has grossed over $330 million worldwide.
