NYCC 2018: Teaser Trailer Released At ‘Good Omens’ Panel
  |

The end is nigh, but the cast and creators of Good Omens still found the time to chat with New York Comic-Con attendees and share the new trailer for the Amazon Prime original series, which you can watch here below. In attendance for the NYCC panel at Madison Square Garden were stars Michael Sheen (Aziraphale), David Tennant (Crowley), Jon Hamm (Archangel Gabriel) and Miranda Richardson (Madame Tracy), as well as creator and showrunner Neil Gaiman, moderator Whoopi Goldberg, and director Douglas Mackinnon.

Read here below for a sneak peek into the Good Omens panel with the cast and creators.

Based on the 1990 bestselling novel Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch by Gaiman and the late Terry Pratchett, the highly-anticipated show brings viewers into “a dark, comedic story set in modern day Britain that centers on the stoic and sensible angel, Aziraphale (played by Sheen) and the suave man-about-town demon, Crowley (played by Tennant) as they join forces to prevent the coming of the Apocalypse,” according to Amazon.

At the panel, Gaiman spoke about how he and Pratchett had previously tried to get the series going to no avail, so now Gaiman sees the series as a way to honor Pratchett, who passed away in 2015. Tennant repeatedly referred to the series as “delicious” and Sheen and Hamm both noted they were longtime fans, having read the novel when it was first published. Hamm said that when he got the call asking if he was interested: “I said, “˜I don’t care what the part is; I know it will be awesome.'” Richardson discussed what a wonderful time she had embodying a character with a split personality and how fun the cast and crew were.

Gaiman also explained one the series’ central themes that translated from the book to screen was that no one is all good or all evil; that everyone can represent humanity at its best and worst. “The greatest triumphs and tragedies of humanity are not by people being fundamentally good or fundamentally evil, but people being fundamentally people,” he paraphrased.

Highlights of the panel were:

– A comment was said that before Tennant was able to read the novel, he was busy “doing the “˜Doctor’ thing,” to which Jon Hamm replied: “Doctor Who? They should give him a last name!”
– Someone from the crowd said, “…and you get to be a ginger!” to which Tennant repeated: “I get to be a ginger!” and later joked that “all demons are gingers.” Hamm quipped, “But not all gingers are demons!”
– The soundtrack for the series is Queen’s Greatest Hits because of a joke Pratchett and Gaiman shared. “Despite having noticed that neither of us had purchased Queen’s Greatest Hits, it was in the car,” Gaiman explained, adding that the joke was that any CD that stayed in a car long enough would turn into Queen’s Greatest Hits.
– For the many fans who love the footnotes in the novel, Gaiman said that many of the footnotes are either referenced or dramatized.
– The panel emphasized the great chemistry between the two lead characters, and Sheen referred to acting alongside Tennant as “kinda sexy.”
– Hamm will play the second-in-command to God, the Archangel Gabriel, or as Sheen describes him, “an annoying boss.”
– Sheen and Tennant share the same favorite episode of the show, episode 3, in which viewers see how the two came together throughout all the ages.
– Mum was the word about the rumors of Hamm playing Batman (when a fan asked), but Tennant revved up the crowd by saying, “Wouldn’t Jon make a great Batman?” to uproarious applause. He then followed up by referring to his castmate as “BatHamm.”

Fans at the panel were also shown never-before-seen footage, including a scene in which Aziraphale and Crowley have returned from failing to find the missing Antichrist, as well as a scene in Aziraphale’s book shop with Gabriel hilariously and awkwardly attempting to act “human” in front of other humans.
