‘The Mule’ Trailer: Clint Eastwood Is A Mule For A Drug Cartel
  |  @   |

Warner Bros. has released the new trailer for The Mule, directed by and starring Clint Eastwood. The film finds Eastwood playing an elderly man who is alone and on the verge of losing his house. In order to fix his broken relationships and earn enough money to keep his house, he has to take on a new job, which turns out to be a dangerous one. Unbeknownst to him, he’s a mule for the drug cartel, and now, he will become the target of an FBI agent (Bradley Cooper) who is hot on his trail.

Watch the trailer here below.

The film looks like it has the makings for winning a few awards, although the tone and themes seem very questionable. First, we know that Eastwood isn’t exactly what some may call a liberal. So him using Mexican drug cartels not only seems lazy, but panders to a conservative demographic who believe that Mexicans are rapists and are bringing nothing but crime up north. But this is a trailer after all, so there could be something that I could be missing. And Michael Pena is in this, but I can’t help but feel he’s there to be the token good guy. I seriously hope that I am wrong.

The Mule also stars Laurence Fishburne, Dianne Wiest and Andy Garcia, as well as Alison Eastwood, Taissa Farmiga, Ignacio Serricchio, Loren Dean, and Eugene Cordero.

Here’s the official plot synopsis:

Earl Stone (Clint Eastwood) is a man in his 80s who is broke, alone, and facing foreclosure of his business when he is offered a job that simply requires him to drive. Easy enough, but, unbeknownst to Earl, he’s just signed on as a drug courier for a Mexican cartel. He does well””so well, in fact, that his cargo increases exponentially, and Earl is assigned a handler. But he isn’t the only one keeping tabs on Earl; the mysterious new drug mule has also hit the radar of hard-charging DEA agent Colin Bates (Bradley Cooper). And even as his money problems become a thing of the past, Earl’s past mistakes start to weigh heavily on him, and it’s uncertain if he’ll have time to right those wrongs before law enforcement, or the cartel’s enforcers, catch up to him.
