Marvel Shows Will Continue To Stream On Netflix Instead Of Moving To Disney Play
  |  @   |

Disney is on the verge of launching their streaming service, Disney Play, in 2019. Most if not all of Disney owned IPs like Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and Lucasfilm will move from Netflix to Disney Play.

I say most because Netflix’s Marvel shows are going to stay on Netflix, despite some signs it could move like the cancellation of Iron Fist. More on the story below.

In an interview with Inverse, Netflix’s Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos said with full confidence:

“Those shows are for us to cancel and we’re super happy with their performance so far.”

That is a bit of a relief to those who have stood by these shows, through all the ups and downs. The details of the Marvel and Netflix deal were not made completely public. We do know that they followed through on delivering the four standalone shows for Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Iron First. After their releases, it all culminated with The Defenders. However, what happens after that is not clear. They’ve managed to add The Punisher, a show that wasn’t originally part of the deal. It was announced shortly after Daredevil season 2.

Sarandos’ statement seems to hint that the deal between Marvel and Netflix allows the streaming service to have creative control over their characters.

Unfortunately, Iron Fist‘s cancellation comes on the heels of the show’s recent release of the second season. Additionally, the sophomore season is considered to be a huge improvement over the first. And while it is disappointing to see that the show got canceled as it was getting good, there are signs of hope.

A little after the cancellation announcement was made, Netflix’s Iron Fist Facebook page posted an image with a caption that read: “The Story Is Never Over.”

Now, this could mean Danny Rand (Finn Jones) could appear in other Netflix Marvel shows like Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Daredevil, or even The Punisher. There may be even a chance that we could see him in Daughters of the Dragon, a possible Iron Fist spinoff fans are hoping happens.

Daredevil is the flagship show of this deal, while Jessica Jones and Luke Cage have also earned their place on the streaming service. Although Iron Fist may be canceled, there are still some signs the character will live on. We will just have to wait and see where he appears. And then there’s The Punisher. However, it’s not quite clear if we will ever see The Defenders get back together for the second time.

Of course, we will keep you posted should any new developments come in.
