‘Deadpool’ and ‘Zombieland’ Writers In Early Talks For A ‘Pirates Of The Caribbean’ Reboot
  |  @   |

Things are in the earliest stages so there’s not a whole lot of details, but it’s being reported that Disney is currently considering a reboot of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

The report says the studio has met with Deadpool and Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, and the writing team is now in early talks to write a script for the potential reboot.

It has not yet been revealed which actors will be back for the reboot, if any of them at all. That includes the main star of the series, Johnny Depp. The only one who will definitely still be involved with the franchise if the reboot moves forward is producer Jerry Bruckheimer.

It will be interesting to see if Disney is confident enough in the property to move forward with a reboot without Depp starring. It would save them a lot of money, of course, but he’s also a huge reason the franchise has been so successful. Successful to the tune of over $4 billion worldwide for the five installments that have been released, including nearly $795 million for the most recent entry, last year’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.

But again, it’s still very early. It will be a while before things start to take shape, if Disney even decides to move forward with the reboot at this point.

In addition to writing Deadpool and Zombieland, Reese and Wernick also penned their sequels, this year’s Deadpool 2 and the upcoming Zombieland 2. Their other credits include last year’s Life, the upcoming Michael Bay title 6 Underground, and the new take on Clue, all of which featuring Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds on the cast.

If you do the math, that means Ryan Reynolds is your new Jack Sparrow. OK, probably not. But you’re totally picturing it right now.
