Live-Action ‘Attack On Titan’ To Be Helmed By ‘IT’ Director Andy Muschietti
  |  @   |

Andy Muschietti made a huge splash with the ultra-creepy Mama and soon became a household name after his adaptation of Stephen King’s IT. The film brought back memories of why we are all scared of clowns.

While he is working on IT: Chapter 2, Muschietti is already lining up his next project. Reports confirm that the filmmaker will be directing a live-action adaptation of Attack on Titan. More on the report, below.

The Hollywood Reporter says this new feature on the popular manga title comes from Harry Potter producer David Heyman, who is producing along with Masi Oka and Barbara Muschietti. No screenwriters are attached, yet.

Hajime Isayama‘s manga debuted in 2009. In it, humans co-exist with man-eating titans. In order to defend and prevent themselves from being eaten, humans have built towering walls. At times it can be quite graphic and grotesque. However, the manga went further than that by addressing themes like militarization, the horrors of war, and abuse of power.

It would eventually become an anime series, which was then followed by a two-part live-action film released in Japan. But a lot of these live-action films have been met with various degrees of success. Fullmetal Alchemist was a long-awaited live-action adaptation of the popular manga that was widely panned. On the flip side of that the Kenshin trilogy was considered to be successful. The live-action Attack on Titan films received negative criticisms upon their release with Part 1 earning a 57% approval rating and Part II earning a 58% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. So your guess is as good as ours as to whether or not WB can turn things around for the live-action adaptations.

Considering how early the news is, it is no surprise that there are no writers or cast attached to the film yet. Of course, we will keep you posted should any new developments come in.

Muschietti’s IT: Chapter 1 earned more than $700 million worldwide in 2017. The film is also one of the highest grossing rated-R films to this date. IT: Chapter 2, starring Jessica Chastain, Bill Hader, and James McAvoy opens in theaters on September 6, 2019. Bill Skarsgard will also return to reprise his role as Pennywise.
